WATCH: Bald eagle undergoes TSA screening before flight

A bald eagle was spotted going through TSA at a North Carolina airport this week.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport screened Clark, a trained bird, with pictures posted to Twitter on Thursday.

“TSA officers are used to seeing an eagle on their uniform as they look over their shoulder, but I’m sure the team at Checkpoint A did a double take when they saw a real one earlier this week,” TSA’s Southeast Twitter account captioned the photos. “Our special guest was Clark the Eagle with the World Bird Sanctuary, who decided to give his wings a break and fly commercial. His airline notified us and we screened him and his handler. Clark is trained to spread his wings, and even showed off a bit during screening.”

Others captured video of the eagle flapping its wings mid-screening.

“Mans is out here bringing a bald eagle through TSA at CLT Douglas,” the video’s caption read.

Clark is one of four bald eagles cleared and trained for travel to get to their various public appearances. In Clark’s case, he’s appeared at the Horatio Alger Association, the Chicago Bears, and Boeing’s annual event.

The eagle was hatched at the World Bird Sanctuary in 2002 with scale deformities on his feet that made him vulnerable to the wild. His first flight as part of the sanctuary’s Eagle Flight Team began at St. Louis Cardinals baseball games during the national anthem.
