Nelson is president and CEO of the District-based charity Vital Voices Global Partnership. Proceeds and clothing donations from Fashion’s Night Out on Thursday in Georgetown will go to support the organization.
Can you tell me a little bit about Vital Voices Global Partnership? What are some of the organization’s goals?
Vital Voices Global Partnership is an international nonprofit that invests in women to improve our world. We train and mentor women leaders who are bringing justice, peace and greater prosperity to the world.
What will you do with the clothes and money collected during the event?
All profits collected will be directly invested in furthering the work of Vital Voices Global Partnership as we train, mentor and support remarkable women leading change around the world.
What about the event gets you most excited?
We at Vital Voices are very proud to partner with Georgetown Fashion’s Night Out this year. We’re looking forward to a fantastic event and meeting new supporters and raising the visibility of our organization and the women leaders we work with around the world.
Is Fashion’s Night Out in Georgetown an annual event? What are some of its highlights?
Yes, it is an annual event that started in Georgetown in 2010 but originated in New York City in 2009 by Vogue magazine. This year, in addition to a fun shopping experience with some of the proceeds benefiting Vital Voices Global Partnership, there will be great music included in the festivities along with signature refreshments and complimentary pedicab rides.
How can people participate in the event?
Everyone is invited to celebrate this year’s event and can participate by supporting Georgetown’s retail shops and purchasing specially made Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts and totes which will go towards supporting Vital Voices Global Partnership.
