Reince Priebus: Hillary failed to ‘report for duty’

Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus suggested Sunday that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton skirted her responsibilities by opting not to go on the now-infamous Sunday news shows as then-United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice did following the Benghazi terror attacks.

In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Priebus addressed the released excerpt from Clinton’s book, “Hard Choices,” that details the 2012 terrorist attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya. In the book, Clinton said she chose not to appear on the news shows following the attacks, putting Rice in the spotlight instead.

“One of two things was true: Either Hillary Clinton had a grueling week and was tired and failed to report for duty, and therefore I don’t know how she can be president of the United States,” Priebus said. “Or second, Susan Rice was lying and, in fact, Hillary Clinton wasn’t tired and that’s not the reason she didn’t report for duty.”

The RNC chair asserted that Clinton’s decision not to appear on the television shows should take her out of the running for president.

In the chapter on the Benghazi attacks, Clinton accuses the GOP of starting a “political slugfest” on the backs for the four American killed in the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks. Many have argued that Clinton played smart politics, though, by releasing the Benghazi chapter specifically as part of an attempt to quell any potential questions about the attacks.

And Priebus agreed that in releasing the chapter, Clinton herself was “playing politics.”

“She played a part in the White House’s cover up of what this is all about in Benghazi. It was a terrorist attack,” he said. “Our heroes and diplomats have died and were murdered, and she continues to play politics. Hillary Clinton is politics 24-7, and this is no different.”
