Christie: Rubio ‘not ready to be president’

Gov. Chris Christie continued his line of attack against Sen. Marco Rubio Monday, arguing the freshman senator “is not ready to be president.”

“This isn’t about Marco and me, it’s about, ‘Who do you think can beat Hillary Clinton?'” Christie said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Christie assailed Rubio for his tendency to repeat memorized lines from his stump speech while on the debate stage, a habit Christie pointed out in Saturday’s debate in what became one of the most memorable moments of the event.

“That’s what he does all the time,” the New Jersey governor said of Rubio. “Marco gets told what to say, and he repeats it. I’ve been saying that all week.”

Christie joked that Saturday’s debate, in which he turned out a widely-praised performance, was no big deal to him.

“In New Jersey, we call that a night off,” he said. “Hillary Clinton will be much tougher.”

Although Jeb Bush called Christie “a great guy” earlier on the same program Monday morning, Christie criticized his rival’s debate performance.

“I love the fact that Jeb thinks I’m a really good guy,” Christie said. “He had a chance to take on Donald trump on Saturday night, and I don’t think he really effectively delivered that punch.”
