ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $400,000 in grants to the Attleboro Redevelopment Authority for two former industrial sites.
Half the money will be used to clean up the former Automatic Machine Product site, while the other half will be used for the former American Metalcraft Company site.
EPA’s Brownfields program encourages redevelopment of the country’s estimated 450,000 abandoned and contaminated waste sites. In Massachusetts this year, EPA is providing $6.75 million in 33 separate Brownfields grants to communities across the state.
Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA New England’s office, said cleaning and revitalizing contaminated sites helps create jobs and can help a community create new businesses and neighborhood centers, while making the environment cleaner and the community healthier.
