The trial begins Thursday against three Baltimore police officers accused of kidnapping two teenagers and abandoning them.
Officers Milton Smith, Tyrone Francis and Gregory Hellen are charged with kidnapping the teens in May 2009 in separate incidents. The 15-year-old boys were picked up in a van by the officers assigned to the violent crimes division. One teen was dropped off in east Baltimore and the other in Patapsco Valley State Park in Howard County.
New State’s Attorney Greg Berstein is prosecuting the case.
