DC council chairman charged with bank fraud

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the District of Columbia Council has been charged with overstating his income on loan applications.

Kwame R. Brown on Wednesday became the second D.C. councilmember in six months to be criminally charged.

Federal prosecutors charged Brown with a single count of bank fraud. He was charged in a criminal information, a charging document that generally signals a defendant’s plan to plead guilty.
