DC Comics announced on Monday its current iteration of Superman will come out as bisexual in a November issue.
The story follows Superman’s son, Jonathan Kent, who struggles to protect and save the world in a similar situation as his father. Kent goes to his male friend, reporter Jay Nakamura, for support, and the two become romantically involved throughout the series, which will release on Nov. 9, according to DC Comics.

“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” said writer Tom Taylor. “Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
Jim Lee, the company’s chief creative officer and publisher, said he and DC Comics were proud of the new story. Lee described it as “another incredible example” of the power of the DC Multiverse and how fans will get to enjoy this version of Superman while enjoying others simultaneously.
