Air Greenland makes maiden voyage from BWI to Greenland

You may not be able to pronounce the name of this airplane ? Kunuunnguaq ? or the city the Boeing 757 plane will land in ? Kangerlussuaq but if traveling to scenic Greenland is one of the top 10 things for you to do, then Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is the only place in the country to get a direct flight.

In its historic maiden voyage from U.S. soil, Air Greenland launched its inaugural service Thursday to the applause of dignitaries, officials and travelers in attendance.

The five-hour, nonstop direct flight between Maryland and Greenland is the only one of its type in America.

Initially, Air Greenland will offer one flight a week on Thursdays until the middle of June and then increase during peak season (mid-June until mid-August) to two flights per week on Mondays and Thursdays and then revert back to one weekly flight until the season for the route closes on September 20, according to officials.

With the addition of Air Greenland, seven international carriers now operate out of BWI.
