Romney pushes back against media distractions

As witnessed by today’s Washington Post story, the liberal media is going to do everything possible to distract voters from President Obama’s failed economic record. Just take a look at this interview Mitt Romney did with a local CBS affiliate in Denver:

This clip doesn’t capture the full interview (which occurred before the WaPo story broke), but the full video shows that the reporter first asked him a process/caucus question, then three gay marriage questions, then the amnesty and pot questions before Romney finally calls her out:

Aren’t there issues of significance that you’d like to talk about? The Economy. The growth of jobs. The need to put people back to work. The challenges of Iran. We have enormous issues that we face, but you want to talk about medical marijuana.

The online version of this story says Romney “loses cool,” but watch the clip for yourself. He says all this without raising his voice while also keeping a smile.

Reporter Shaun Boyd says the questions came from ones “viewers posted on our Facebook page,” and it wouldn’t be the first time potheads hijacked an online poll. But are these really the issues most voters care about? Not according to Pew. Americans told them that the “economy,” “jobs,” and the “budget deficit,” were their top three concerns. “Gay marriage” and “immigration” were at the bottom of voter priorities and “marijuana” didn’t even make the list.

Oh, and Pew also reports that trust in the media is at an all time low. Apparently, “By two-to-one (62% to 31%), more Americans say that news organizations are politically biased than say they are careful to avoid biased reporting. … The news media also is faulted for invading people’s privacy and focusing too much.”

And also, “For the first time in a Pew Research Center survey, as many say that news organizations hurt democracy (42%) as protect democracy (42%).”

If the media keeps playing this game, Romney should not be afraid to call them out on it.
