Pro-life organization Students for Life of America set up 915 pink crosses on the U.S. Capital lawn on Thursday, calling for Congress to defund Planned Parenthood.
Kristan Hawkins, president of SFLA, and Rev. Patrick Mahoney, of Christian Defense Coalition, spoke in front of the display on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
“The scariest thing you can see in Washington, D.C., on Halloween are these 915 crosses on the lawn of the Capitol,” Mahoney said. “They represent the 915 children that die everyday through abortion at Planned Parenthood clinics.”
SFLA, one of the nation’s most active pro-life organizations dedicated to training and equipping young people, routinely displays these “Cemetery of the Innocents” at college campuses across the country to raise awareness about the lives lost to abortions.
These displays coincide with the Planned Parenthood Project, aimed to educate this generation about the real motives behind the company and the SFLA’s desire to reveal the truth about what takes place at Planned Parenthood.
Hawkins presented some shocking statistics released on a poll done by the SFLA, including the fact that among young people ages 18-24, 59 percent did not know whether or not Planned Parenthood offered abortions to pregnant women, with an additional 11 percent believing they did not offer abortions at all.
What’s even more disturbing, according to Hawkins, is the fact that Planned Parenthood receives so much public funding, on top of the company’s massive annual profits.
“It’s time for Congress to take serious the demands by ordinary citizens to de-fund Planned Parenthood once and for all,” Hawkins said. “Taxpayer funds should never be used to promote or perform abortions… and that’s what Planned Parenthood is all about.”
