Michael Jordan’s ’98 finals jersey sells for $10.1 million at auction

Michael Jordan’s jersey from the 1998 NBA finals smashed records when it sold for $10.1 million at auction Thursday.

The red away-game jersey that Jordan wore in Game 1 of the Chicago Bulls’ series against the Utah Jazz was the feature of the Sotheby’s auction.

It is now the highest-priced item in sports memorabilia history, according to a report.

Diego Maradona’s 1986 World Cup “Hand of God” jersey had previously held the record at $9.28 million.

In Game 1 of the ’98 finals, Jordan played 45 minutes and put up 33 points.

Although the Bulls lost Game 1 88-85, they would rebound and win the series four games to two.

The Bulls’ victory over the Jazz would earn Jordan, who is widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time, his sixth championship ring.

“The Last Dance as it’s called, was Michael’s final season with the Chicago Bulls (1997-1998) and is perhaps the most beloved period in Jordan folklore, as Michael reached the apex of his popularity and powers while simultaneously conquering major internal divisions that were fracturing the team dynamics of the late 90s Chicago Bulls,” the auction house said regarding the jersey.
