A woman was stabbed near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center late Friday night.
D.C. police said the victim was in a verbal altercation with another woman near the Mount Vernon Square Metro stop at 7th and M Streets NW around 10:57 p.m. The fight escalated, and the other woman lashed out with a knife.
The victim was cut deep on the cheek, police department spokesman Officer Araz Alali said. She was taken to a local hospital.
The suspect fled on foot. Police are on the lookout for a black woman about 30 years old, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, about 200 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.
