Obama is just back from his Hawaii vacation, so who can blame him for skipping tomorrow’s fundraiser in the Hamptons? Going in his place will be Caroline Kennedy, and celebrity co-hosts “include Alec Baldwin, Christy Turlington Burns & Ed Burns, Barbara Lee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and Carl Spielvogel, Laura Durning, Jason Epstein, Katie Lee and Billy Joel, Ellen Chesler & Matt Malow, Obama veteran donors Jay Johnson and Brian Mathis, Isaac Mizrahi, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosie Perez, Jane Rosenthal, Russell Simmons, and Robert Zimmerman, among others.” Although tickets cost $2,300, if you’re young and have a trust fund, there are “‘specially priced’ $1,000 tickets … for supporters between the ages of 16 and 25.” Alec Baldwin may now be behind the presumptive nominee, but he has previously called into question whether Obama was ready to lead. “I don’t think Barack should run for President. I admire him, but he’s a kid,” the actor told a New York gossip column back in 2006. Maybe the method acting Baldwin was just in character. There are plenty more celebrity fundraisers scheduled for this month, including George Clooney’s in Switzerland. But the most celebrity packed event of all will be the Democratic Convention. Some people mocked Hillary for giving her concession speech in Iowa surrounded by former cabinet secretaries and Clinton administration officials. Though celebrities will be better tanned than the mostly pale white crowd standing behind Clinton, what will the public think when they see the following celebs mixing it up with the presumptive president?
It’s now just a question of how much their private jets will pollute Denver.
