Twitter has come under fire after seemingly removing the word “journalist” from Andy Ngo’s title on the platform’s news feed after he was attacked in Portland.
“Some woke twerp complained to Twitter about its curated news feature describing Andy Ngo as a journalist, so Twitter dutifully complied and removed that description,” tweeted Sohrab Ahmari, an editor for the New York Post.

The outlet’s curated news feature initially described Ngo as a “journalist” before dropping the title from Ngo’s name, instead referring to him simply as an “author,” according to screenshots.
Ngo, whose Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy book reached a top spot on a bestselling list, has reported on antifa activities in Portland for years.
“Tech companies literally deciding who gets to be a journalist is a whole new level of creepy evil that I have no doubt will go widely unheralded,” said Geoffrey Ingersoll, the Daily Caller’s editor-in-chief.

The funny thing is that it’s awfully rich for the likes of @ChuckModi1 to be calling @MrAndyNgo not a “journalist” https://t.co/BQG38fSYgm

Andy Ngo is a fearless reporter who documents the activities of Antifa in Portland—something too few reporters are willing to do. Antifa goons hate him & do all they can to destroy him—with lies, vicious rumors, threats, & now 2 brutal beatings. #AndyNgohttps://t.co/OmExpyG7Zt

Twitter is evil.
This may not seem like a big deal but then think about what other truths they are undoubtably hiding and manipulating.
Though for the record @MrAndyNgo, you’re too good to be called a journalist. Take it as a compliment… https://t.co/fkqvo0avVX

Let’s support @MrAndyNgo who has endured repeated attacks to bring out the truth about the Antifa criminal syndicate. Andy is one of the few real journalists left in America pic.twitter.com/XSmsQnFCPd

Ngo responded to the change, saying the “far-left” only defends “whose who write what they approve of.”
“Anyone else is a ‘provocateur’ deserving of intimidation & violence,” he added.
My detractors do this because they want to take away the one thing that all decent people agree on: press freedom is sacred. Who the far-left defines as “press” are those who write what they approve of. Anyone else is a “provocateur” deserving of intimidation & violence. https://t.co/nLnT6IbCj8

In another tweet, Ngo said that his brand of journalism, exposing a group former President Donald Trump referred to as a “terrorist organization,” is dangerous.

“Journalism that challenges power comes with risks. Journalists who investigate, who go on the ground — who go to dangerous areas — should be supported, not condemned,” he said.

Often the best reporting isn’t what earns accolades but rather receives censorship.

Ngo initially trended on the social media platform after sharing a lengthy thread of an attack that took place on Friday.
“No journalist in America should ever face violence for doing his or her job,” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, accompanied by photos of his injuries.
Ngo said the group “tried to kill” him “again” when he was reporting on one of its protests late last month.
Statement on May 28, 2021 Antifa assault:
No journalist in America should ever face violence for doing his or her job.
Yet on Friday, May 28, Antifa tried to kill me again while I was reporting on the ongoing protests and riots in Portland, Ore. for a new chapter of my…
