An eight-year-old boy was killed Sunday when he and his mother were struck by a car that ran off an Alexandria road. The boy was hit about 2:28 p.m. on Duke Street when a 22-year-old Fairfax County man driving a 1994 Honda Accord veered off the road near the Interstate 395 overpass. Alexandria police said it was not clear why he drove off the road.
The car then continued down an embankment into the guardrail off the interstate.
The boy, whose name was not released Sunday, died at the scene. His mother suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was not hurt.
