Fiorina: Shutdown won’t be a mistake

Carly Fiorina doesn’t believe that shutting down the government over defunding Planned Parenthood would be a mistake.

“People want to know what do we stand for. What does our party stand for?” Fiorina told Chris Wallace during Fox News Sunday.

The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, who ranks second in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, forcefully called for defunding the women’s health and abortion provider during Wednesday’s Republican primary debate, which pundits lauded her as the winner of.

But there is hesitancy about shutting down the government over Planned Parenthood, which is in hot water over a series of undercover videos detailing the procurement of aborted fetal body parts.

Wallace cited the president of National Right to Life who said that such a shutdown would be a mistake and it was more important to elect a pro-life president.

Fiorina disagreed, saying that since the 2013 shutdown the GOP had a historic majority and got control of the Senate.

Fiorina also took on fact checkers over a scene she described from a video about Planned Parenthood, where a living baby was harvested for body parts. Wallace pointed out that fact checkers have said that scene didn’t happen in the video but was actually described by one of the officials in the story.

“I have seen the footage and I find it amazing that all of these fact checkers claim this doesn’t exist. They are trying to attack the authenticity of the video tape,” she said.

Fiorina has rose in the polls since her debate performance, with a CNN national poll showing Donald Trump is still leading the primary race at 24 percent and Fiorina at 15 percent. Trump was down 8 points since the last poll.
