Last January, when Zack Greinke signed a four-year extension with Kansas City, he thanked the team for doing everything it could to support him. That is, support him as he sought help for a social disorder.
Well, it’s a good thing they’ve helped him off the field. They’ve done little to support him while he’s pitching. Just look at this line: In his last three starts, Greinke has allowed a combined 12 hits and only three earned runs. Yet all he got out of it was a loss and two no-decisions. For the season, he’s 0-3 with a 2.27 ERA.

And did we mention that he’s 4-34 when the Royals score two runs or less? Which, apparently, is every time he pitches. Maybe Greinke wouldn’t have bolted in free agency anyway, but when his contract is up after the 2012 season, nobody could blame him if he opts for finding more support on the field.
