Parties hammer out jury selection, logistics for Huguely trial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The notoriety surrounding the case of a University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his former girlfriend will complicate jury selection when George Huguely V of Chevy Chase goes to trial next month. The case has generated national headlines and the judge and attorneys worked out in court Thursday how to select an impartial panel who will decide whether Huguely murdered Yeardley Love in May 2010. Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Edward Hogshire is preparing to call 160 prospective jurors to be questioned over two days to select the panel of 12 jurors and three alternates who will sit for the trial, which is scheduled to begin Feb. 6. The judge also said he will not sequester jurors but would give them an extensive list of what they can’t do during the trial. — Emily Babay
