Fox News’ Chris Wallace: GOP lawyer didn’t grill Brett Kavanaugh accuser, ‘more of a light sauteeing’

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said the lawyer Senate Republicans chose to question Christine Blasey Ford at the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday didn’t seem to help the Republicans’ effort to rescue embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Wallace said on Fox News that there was no “grilling” of Ford by Mitchell, but that it was “more of a light sauteeing,” that the questioning was “pretty mild and gentle,” and that Mitchell, “frankly, seemed pointless in a lot of places.”

Ford testified Thursday in front of the Senate about her claim that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago, when they were both teenagers in high school.

Mitchell represented Republicans in the questioning of Ford and largely focused on the timeline of her story and the process she went through in going public with her allegation.

During the first break, Wallace said Ford seemed credible, and many on social media were predicting that this assessment from a Fox News host could spell trouble for Kavanaugh’s confirmation process. Kavanaugh is set to testify before the same committee around 3 p.m.
