Donald Trump isn’t the only one courting an angry mob of supporters.
Nevada’s Democratic convention resulted in chaos on Saturday after a vote to change the rules caused 60 Sanders delegates to be rejected because they had not registered as Democrats by May 1.
Sanders supporters believed that the state party leaders purposefully put them at a disadvantage, allowing more delegates for Clinton, and not providing Sanders delegates with an opportunity to defend their registration.
Some supporters protested against state party chairwoman Roberta Lange, sending her countless threatening emails and text messages. Supporters viewed the convention as a demonstration of the rigged political system, with Lange at the forefront.
“It’s been vile,” Ms. Lange told The New York Times. “It’s been threatening messages, threatening my family, threatening my life, threatening my grandchild.”
The chaos has caused Democrats to further fear a lack of unity within the party. Rather than uniting against presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump, the loyalties of Sanders supporters are driving a wedge into the party and top Democrats demand that Sanders address the issue.
The Washington Post reported that Sanders said, “If the Democratic Party is to be successful in November, it is imperative that all state parties treat our campaign supporters with fairness and the respect that they have earned.”
The Democratic Party hopes to avoid another display of anger at the upcoming July convention in Philadelphia.
