Man visited two Alexandria banks, robbed one at gunpoint

Alexandria police are looking for the man who went to two banks — but only robbed one — on the same day this month.

The man robbed a Virginia Commerce Bank, located at 1414 Prince St., at gunpoint at about 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 8, police said.

He entered the building, brandished a silver handgun and demanded money. Police said a 32-year-old bank teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then fled the bank.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police said the suspect had first gone to that bank earlier in the day. He also went to a nearby State Department Federal Credit Union branch, located at 1630 King St., that day.

Police obtained video surveillance footage of the suspect from the State Department Federal Credit Union.

In the video, the man is shown wearing the same backpack that victims in the Virginia Commerce Bank robbery described.

The suspect is described as a black man who is 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. He weighs 160 to 170 pounds.

At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark gray or black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and was carrying a black backpack.

When the man was at the credit union branch, he was wearing that same backpack, a black baseball cap, a gray T-shirt and dark jeans, police said.
