Donald Trump has selected his campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, to be counselor to the president. Conway, who joined the Trump campaign in August after previously working for a super PAC supporting Texas senator Ted Cruz, will “continue her role as a close advisor to the president and will work with senior leadership to effectively message and execute the Administration’s legislative priorities and actions,” according to a Trump transition press release on Thursday.
“Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory. She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message. I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing,” said Trump in a statement.
Throughout her time in the campaign and since the election, Conway has served primarily as a spokesperson for Trump, particularly on television, where she has gained a reputation as a particularly tenacious defender of the New York businessman.
The Trump transition press release also notes that Conway has “shattered the glass ceiling” for women in politics since she became the first female campaign manager to win a presidential election.
Conway joins a senior White House team of Trump loyalists, including chief of staff Reince Priebus, senior counselor Steve Bannon, and senior advisor Stephen Miller.
