ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Dozens of casino union members sat down in the street, blocked traffic from entering the Tropicana Casino and Resort and were arrested Friday evening, saying they were breaking the law just as management of the casino is breaking it by refusing to bargain in good faith.
Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union termed the actions a campaign of civil disobedience aimed at getting the casino to resume payments to a pension plan it unilaterally terminated earlier this year after declaring an impasse in contract talks.
