Kevin McCarthy on Pelosi handling of impeachment investigation: ‘Better chance of getting a fair justice system in China’

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed President Trump would have a “better chance” of a fair trial in China than in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment inquiry.

During an interview on Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning, McCarthy condemned Pelosi’s decision to keep the impeachment inquiry isolated to committees instead of holding a vote on the House floor.

“The Democrats are afraid to even take this vote,” McCarthy told host Brian Kilmeade. “Look, Brian, you have a better chance of getting a fair justice system in China than you do in Speaker Pelosi’s movement here inside the House.”

McCarthy claimed House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff is leading a biased investigation into Trump’s interactions with Ukrainian leaders and limiting Republican access to information and witnesses.

Several members of the Trump administration, including Vice President Mike Pence, have said they will not participate in the impeachment inquiry because of Pelosi’s refusal to hold a floor vote.

“There is no reason for impeachment. The Democrats know it. That’s why they don’t have it in an open committee,” said McCarthy. “That’s why they have it in a closed committee.”

Many Democrats were expecting Pelosi to announce a floor vote on Tuesday, but that didn’t happen.

“There is no requirement we have a vote, and at this time we will not have a vote,” the speaker said.
