McCarthy: House is waiting on Senate spending/Zika deal

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said he will likely wait for a Senate spending and Zika funding proposal rather than introduce a House version.

“We’ll see what they produce,” McCarthy said, referring to the Senate, where lawmakers are finalizing a deal to fund the government through Dec. 9 and provide $1.1 billion to combat Zika.

The Senate is scheduled to vote this afternoon on the package but it is not clear whether an agreement will be finished in time.

McCarthy said “it’s always an option” for the House to produce an independent bill, but he called on the Senate to act quickly.

“I don’t know if we crafted something right now it would help the process,” McCarthy said. “I’m hopeful they can post something today. It would be very helpful.”
