Things in California continue to go from bad to worse, as the state proves to be run by the most incompetent politicians in the country.
The state is going to miss the deadline to kill the increase in the gas tax. When California Republicans tried to put a pause on the increase, the state’s Democrats hijacked the effort and attempted to create a new tax on gas suppliers. California already has the highest gas prices in the country and the nation’s second-highest gas tax. Now, both are about to go up once again.
We also have polling to show that the exodus of students from California’s public schools was due, in part, to school closures and the antics of teachers unions. A poll commissioned by Murmuration found that likely voters in California were more upset with how public schools operated during the pandemic than parents in the other states polled: Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Texas, New Jersey, and Tennessee, as well as the District of Columbia. That’s a diverse group, geographically and politically, but all handled their public schools better over the last two years than California.
California legislators aren’t concerned with those issues right now, as they plan to tackle the important problems. That’s why the state is planning on implementing a four-day workweek, lowering the cap on hours from 40 hours to 32 hours while requiring businesses to pay their employees the same amount for eight fewer hours of work. California Democrats think they should know how and when everyone works, which is why they set out to destroy freelance work and the gig economy.
Meanwhile, the state is once again promoting the money furnace that is the high-speed rail. The California High-Speed Rail Authority released new design images for the Central Valley Station proposed for Fresno. It will only cost $35 million and eight years of construction, at least initially. Given that the price tag for the line has constantly ballooned, the deadlines have been pushed back, the rail has shortened by half, and it may not even be “high-speed” after all, it’s difficult to take that estimate at face value.
Single-party Democratic control has continued to drive California into the ground. When pressed, California Democrats point to the state’s GDP and shrug off the state’s many problems, including a cost of living that is driving residents away. With no opposition, California’s Democratic leaders have continued to drive the state down a reckless, ideological path with no regard for the consequences to the state’s residents.
