Former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter is a man who both helped cause and spoke out against the Iraq War. He acheived prominence in the late 1990s for claiming that Saddam Hussein might be hiding nuclear weapons from him and other inspectors, and had not allowed him access to inspect properly (as he said in this sworn testimony, for example). Ritter complained then the U.S. was not doing enough to enforce post-Gulf War resolutions against Iraq.
In the 2000s, he became famous for claiming that Saddam Hussein had, in fact, given him sufficient access, his earlier complaints notwithstanding, and that he could therefore say with great certainty that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
In this decade, he will probably be most famous for getting caught in a child-sex sting in Pennsylvania, the Pocono Record reports. He was formally charged earlier this week for 17 offenses, four of them felonies, for his online behavior toward someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl but who was in fact a police officer.
This is apparently Ritter’s third brush with the law related to similar misconduct, but he has only been charged once and never convicted. Inevitably, someone will do the “Catch a Predator” Scott Ritter mash-up, like this one with convicted child rapist Roman Polanski:
