WATCH: Taylor Swift’s album features call for self-reflection instead of cancel culture

Taylor Swift released her new album Midnights on Friday with one song freely admitting her own faults, encouraging listeners to consider their own.

“Anti-Hero” was released with its own music video early on Friday and already has 1.5 million views. At one point, she refers to herself as having “covert narcissism I disguise as altruism like some kind of congressman.” In the video, she is shot with a bow and arrow and covers her wound with a “Vote for me for everything” badge.

“It’s me. Hi, I’m the problem, it’s me. At teatime, everybody agrees,” the lyrics read. “I’ll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror. It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero.”

In addition to the song suggesting that people consider how they could be problematic, Swift initiated a hashtag for her fans to recreate short videos and share their “anti-heroic traits.”

Swift lists “self-imposed isolation” and “think[ing] her cat is her son” as her own traits to demonstrate how to use the #TSAntiHeroChallenge.
