Steve King: ‘Every day’ of Trump presidency has been a ‘violation of the Constitution’

Iowa Rep. Steve King doesn’t think President Trump is doing enough to honor his campaign promises to stop illegal immigration.

While Trump promised to “immediately terminate” former President Obama’s executive actions on immigration like Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) upon entering the White House, they are still in place.

King, R-Iowa, is “very disappointed on the lack of action,” he told the Daily Caller Friday. Instead, “every day” of Trump’s presidency “has been a violation of the Constitution.”

The House GOP leadership is also looking to delay funding the border wall to avoid a federal shutdown. The Department of Homeland Security’s plans to hire additional personnel in immigration enforcement agencies, including Customs and Border Enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

King is “not too confident” that the GOP-controlled House and Senate will appropriate the amount of money necessary to carry out these Trump campaign promises.

The U.S.-Mexico wall has been estimated at $20 billion, while hiring 5,000 CBP agents and 10,000 ICE agents would contribute to DHS’ requested $3 billion budget request to heighten immigration enforcement operations.

“We have an obligation to get those resources in place so the president can fulfill his campaign promise,” King said.
