Jerry Falwell Jr. to take ‘indefinite leave of absence’ from Liberty University after posting photo of unzipped pants

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. is taking a leave of absence from the private Christian school after posting an image on social media many deemed inappropriate.

On Friday, the school announced its Board of Trustees requested Falwell Jr., an ardent Trump supporter, step down from his leadership roles, to which he agreed.

“The Executive Committee of Liberty University’s Board of Trustees, acting on behalf of the full Board, met today and requested that Jerry Falwell, Jr. take an indefinite leave of absence from his roles as President and Chancellor of Liberty University, to which he has agreed, effective immediately,” Liberty University said in a statement.

Falwell Jr. faced scrutiny for an image he posted on Instagram, and he later deleted it. The picture showed him with his wife’s assistant both wearing unzipped pants. Part of his underwear was visible.

“I’ve apologized to everybody,” he initially said during a radio interview on the incident. “And I’ve promised my kids I’m gonna try to be a good boy from here on out.”
