Make Father?s Day hot hot hot!

Want to give Dad homemade food but can?t cook worth a lick? Take him to the second annual Fiore Winery Chili Cookoff Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

“It really attracts a good following. Last year we had around 300 people,” said Fiore Winery owner Rose Fiore.

The cook-off is sponsored by the Mason-Dixon Pod, an organization dedicated to “cook chili for charity and for fun,” said Vice President/”Pepper Popper” Kimberly Archer. “We do about 20 to 25 cook-offs a year, and bring extra chili, which we call ?throw down,? to serve to the crowd and raise money.”

Fifteen regional chefs will compete with each other to see who makes the best Texas Red Chili, which is basically “meat and gravy, with all the spices granulated together,” Archer explained. She said people are usually surprised because they are expecting really chunky chili with beans and other ingredients. “Texas Red Chili has a heat to it, it?s very good.”

Each person pays 25 cents to taste the throw down chili. The money raised from this year?s cook-off will go to the Harford County Humane Society. The location is 3026 Whiteford Road in Pylesville. RSVP to 410-879-4007.
