There are many uncertainties when an athlete tries to recover from a concussion. There’s no distinct timetable for a return, and suffering several head injuries ultimately could end a career. Penguins star Sidney Crosby hasn’t played in a game since Jan.?5 and is still suffering concussion-like symptoms. Pittsburgh opens camp next month, and it’s too soon to know whether he’ll be able to take the ice and participate in full-contact drills.
It’s worrisome to hear that a 24-year-old is having lingering symptoms eight months after an injury.
And the first person that comes to mind when you think about concussions in the NHL is Eric Lindros, who like Crosby was a No. 1 pick in the NHL draft.
Lindros’ promising career was altered because of reoccurring problems with head injuries. He still made six All-Star Games, but Lindros could have been one of the greatest ever to play the game. And so can Crosby.
Let’s hope we’re not witnessing another Hall of Fame career being ruined by concussions.
