Indiana man charged with murdering four after allegedly fighting over stimulus check

An Indianapolis man was charged Thursday with the murder of three adults and a child after he allegedly shot them to death following an argument about wanting a share of his ex-girlfriend’s stimulus check.

Malik Halfacre, 25, was charged with four counts of murder in addition to a count of attempted murder, armed robbery, and auto theft, according to Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.

Halfacre had “a very spirited discussion over stimulus money” on the night of the killings with his ex-girlfriend and allegedly removed money from her purse before eventually shooting the other victims, Mears said.

His ex-girlfriend, who was critically wounded by the incident Saturday, told police that the victims identified in court documents included her daughter, her mother, her brother, and her cousin, according to the Associated Press.

The case will be eligible for the death penalty because there were multiple victims, including the death of a child, in addition to the alleged robbery, Mears added.
