Trump touts support for Steve Bannon’s return to Breitbart: ‘Fake news needs the competition’

President Trump touted his support on Saturday for Steve Bannon’s transition from the White House back to Breitbart News.

“Steve Bannon will be a tough and smart new voice at @Breitbartnews…maybe even better than ever before. Fake News needs the competition,” Trump tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Trump tweeted his thanks to Bannon for serving him in his campaign and administration.

The White House confirmed on Friday, following reports, that Bannon would no longer be Trump’s chief strategist. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders claimed that the decision was mutual, although a slew of reports claimed he was fired.

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best,” Sanders said in a statement.
