‘Roseanne’ largely overlooked in Emmy nominations

Roseanne” was largely snubbed in Thursday’s Emmy nomination announcement.

The star of the now-defunct hit TV reboot, Roseanne Barr, was overlooked for an Emmy nomination this year, while co-star Laurie Metclaf was picked for her supporting role.

“Congratulations to Laurie Metcalf on her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nomination for Roseanne! #EmmyNoms,” ABC tweeted Thursday afternoon.

Metcalf played Barr’s liberal sister, Jackie, in the show. Barr was widely acclaimed been applauded for her ability to give a friendly face for Trump supporters in Hollywood until she wrote a racist tweet about Obama White House aide Valarie Jarrett in the spring, derailing the show.

“Roseanne” was also nominated in the editing category.

After a season of wildly successful ratings, ABC announced a spin-off, “The Conners,” for the fall, but Barr will be conspicuously absent.

While it’s unknown if this will include another pro-Trump character, an ABC spokesperson said in a statement that, “The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”

Moreover, “Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series,” the statement added.

The new show will feature Metclaf and four other members of the original cast: John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, according to the statement.
