Sen. Mike Lee said Thursday he has “serious questions” about Donald Trump’s policy positions, at a gathering of conservatives where many were trying to come to grips with Trump’s lead in the GOP nomination process.
“I have some serious questions about where Mr. Trump stands on a whole host of issues,” Lee told the Washington Examiner after his speech to CPAC on Thursday. “I’d like to hear more policy specificity from him. He’s done a great job of energizing a lot of people — a lot of people who felt disenfranchised from the process. A lot of people feel a lot of angst about the federal government, understandably.”
“But I need to hear more policy specifics from him,” Lee said, adding that “we have almost nothing from him” on policy.
Lee did not take a hardline stand staked out in recent days by Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, both of whom have said they would not support Trump if he were the GOP nominee.
Lee has shied away from endorsing either Sens. Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz after stumping for the pair ahead of the South Carolina primary two weeks ago.
