Four protesters were arrested after two of them rappelled from the Arlington Memorial Bridge to hang a banner, police said.

About 10:30 a.m. Monday, the protesters unfurled a banner that read, “Tibet Will Be Free,” from the bridge, said Sgt. David Schlosser of the U.S. Park Police.

Two protesters who stood on top of the bridge were arrested immediately, police said. The two that swung from ropes were arrested by D.C. police harbor patrol boats that waited below.

It took about 30 minutes to bring them into custody. Schlosser was not sure what charges the protesters are facing.

The protest was apparently timed with a visit from Chinese vice president Xi Jingping, who is arriving in Washington today and meeting with President Obama at the White House on Tuesday.
