Crime spree ended by police

Fairfax County police on Tuesday arrested Shamark Ismail, a Burke resident, and charged him in connection with several incidents that occurred within an hour of each other.

Ismail, who is being held at the county detention center, is charged with robbery, malicious wounding, attempted carjacking and two counts of larceny from a vehicle.

According to police, Ismail tried to force a motorist to take him to D.C. and then stole the driver’s cell phone and punched the man inthe face. An hour later, Ismail allegedly tried to force a woman out of her car but fled when neighbors confronted him. – Joe Rogalsky

18-year-old pleads guilty to murder in gang killing

An 18-year-old Clinton man faces 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and another charge in a gang-related killing, Prince George’s State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey announced Wednesday.

Darenzo Nettles killed Gary Crisp Jr., 20, of Clinton on Oct. 12, 2006, prosecutors said. Crisp and Nettles were in rival groups and there was to be a “rematch” of an Oct. 9 fight between Crisp and friends of the defendant.

Nettles was not involved in the Oct. 9 incident but shot Crisp twice before fleeing as the two groups gathered in the street for the rematch. Nettles will be sentenced Oct. 26. – Daniel Fowler

Robbers exit empty-handed

Two men reportedly used a handgun to force their way into a Dale City home late Tuesday night, searched the house and then left without taking anything, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Victims said the two men entered the home at about 10:40 p.m. One of the suspects guarded the victims while the second searched the house before both men exited the dwelling empty-handed. – Joe Rogalsky
