House Speaker Paul Ryan is upset with Director of National Intelligence James Clapper’s decision late Monday to allow Hillary Clinton to receive pre-election classified briefings, a spokesman said.
“We obviously disagree with the decision and want to know what precautions will be taken and what assurances the director can give that Secretary Clinton won’t mishandle classified information. She has proven herself untrustworthy,” a spokesman for Ryan said in a statement.

The 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee said last week that although it is protocol for government information to be disclosed to the presidential nominees as a means of keeping the next potential commander in chief informed, Clinton cannot be trusted.
“I think the Director of National Intelligence should block her access to classified information given how recklessly she handled this during the presidential campaign,” Ryan told Fox News host Megyn Kelly July 5.
Ryan also cosponsored a bill last week that would revoke Clinton’s security clearance in response to her use and cover up of private email servers as secretary of state. The legislation may be the only way for Republicans to block Clinton from obtaining classified information after she secures the nomination in Philadelphia this month.
