Donald Trump told CNN Monday evening that Megyn Kelly owes him half of her salary because of the role he has played in her success as a Fox News host.
Host Wolf Blitzer asked the GOP presidential front-runner to defend what Fox News has called his “sick obsession” with the primetime host.
“Don’t tell me about obsession — she should do somebody else and I’m telling you if she didn’t do me, watch what happens to her. Now in the meantime, she’s benefits greatly. She’s hotter now than ever before because of me. She should give me at least half of her salary,” Trump said.
The Kelly File has remained the second highest rated show in cable news since she launched in October 2013 and she’s never lost that position, according to a Nielsen report.
Trump and Kelly first butted heads in August during the first GOP debate when Kelly, a moderator, asked Trump if he possessed the “temperament” to be president, quoting instances in which he has referred to women as “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.” Trump hit Kelly back the following day in a CNN interview.
Fox News has defended Kelly’s question and how she has handled Trump’s persistent attacks over the past seven months.
