Pence insists there is ‘something missing in the polling’

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence argued Friday that polls showing Donald Trump losing ground to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should be looked at skeptically, and said there is “something missing in the polling” given that thousands of people continue to flock to Trump’s rallies.

Pence made the comment to “Fox and Friends” Friday morning, pointing to a “connection” Trump has made with voters.

“I honestly think that there’s something missing in the polling these days,” Pence said. “I think Donald Trump has made a connection to the frustrations and the aspirations of everyday Americans like no one in my lifetime since Ronald Reagan.”

“When you see this avalanche of … negative media coverage that goes chasing after every potential negative story about Donald Trump every day, and still you see tens of thousands of people coming out and rally … there’s a determination out there across the country to change the direction in this nation,” he said.

Over the past week, Trump’s poll numbers in battleground states and nationally have dipped in the wake of a video released last Friday showing him making lewd remarks about women.

Nationally, Trump trails Clinton by 6.7 points, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average. He also trails her in key battleground states such as Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
