Body found in burning car
Fairfax County homicide detectives and county fire marshals are investigating the death of a person discovered Saturday night in a burning car. Authorities responded to an apparent brush fire on the 8200 block of Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, just off Route 50 near the Capital Beltway, at about 8:10 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames and a body inside.

Armed robber steals money, then phone
D.C. police say an individual was robbed of cash and a cell phone at gunpoint Saturday night in Georgetown.
The victim was approached by a man with a handgun on the 3200 block of Reservoir Road at about 8:45 p.m. The robber demanded money and the victim complied, police say.
When the robber walked away, the victim tried to call 911. The thief saw this, returned, took the victim’s iPhone and then fled the area by vehicle. The suspect was described as a black male, 20-25 years old, with dreadlocks.
Elderly woman’s killer faces life in prison
An illegal immigrant convicted of beating an 83-year-old woman and killing her in a fire will be sentenced Monday.
Ramon Alvarado, 33, faces life in prison for the murder of Lila Meizell of Wheaton. Prosecutors said Alvarado killed Meizell to cover up a check-fraud scheme involving his cousin. Jose Alvarado altered a $75 check by adding two zeros to the amount and cashed it for $7,500.
When Jose Alvarado worried that Meizell would notice the theft, Ramon Alvarado offered to kill her and burn her house down for $1,200.
Takoma Park police seek carjacker
Takoma Park police are looking for a man who assaulted a driver and carjacked a vehicle.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Friday on the 600 block of Boston Avenue. The suspect was described as a 40-year-old black male, about 5 feet 11 inches and 160 pounds, possibly with a goatee or beard. The vehicle was a 1999 white, two-door Ford Taurus bearing Maryland tags 768-ALV.
