President Barack Obama sure has his own ideas for a New Year’s resolution. But the Republican National Committee is serving up some of their own for the Commander-in-Chief. And they are sure to make 2014 a better year for Americans — if they’re kept, that is.
President Obama told members of the press in a year-end news conference earlier this month his New Year’s resolution was to be nicer to the White House press corps. But the Republican National Committee has some ideas of what they imagine to be other promises proposed by 44 as he rings in the new year. The RNC has released a set of e-cards designed to point President Obama on track to have a good 2014 — one that is full of accountability and honesty, and a little humor.
“2013 was a terrible year for President Obama,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. “His poll numbers are the worst of his presidency, and his signature legislation is having a devastating impact on millions of families. He’s been awarded ‘Lie of the Year,’ and a majority of the American public sees him as dishonest and untrustworthy. So I’m sure President Obama has many resolutions for 2014, but he can’t change the fact that Democrats’ agenda is wrong for the country. The American people, however, can send House and Senate Democrats packing next November, and that’s a resolution they can keep.”
With his first term plagued by scandals, from the Internal Revenue Service targeting conservative groups to the revelations of the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs to the train wreck that is Obamacare, 2013 has hardly been a successful year for Obama. But if he follows through on his resolutions, 2014 may be a better one for both him and the American people.
While some of the e-cards are witty, like Obama resolving to spend less time on the golf course, others highlight failures of the President’s year, like Obama’s inability to hold former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accountable for the lack of action taken during the attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
