‘Caught’: White House tweets out clip of George Stephanopoulos cutting off Trump impeachment attorney

George Stephanopoulos was caught on-air cutting off a press conference of President Trump’s lead counsel for impeachment, Jay Sekulow.

Sekulow, 63, was giving an update to reporters about the Democratic argument for impeachment that has unfolded following three days of testimony from the impeachment managers, including Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler. Midway through a question, ABC News cut the feed returned the camera back to Stephanopoulos as he dramatically signaled to cut the feed.

The White House tweeted the video of Stephanopoulos with the caption: “Caught! ABC’s Stephanopoulos trying to cut off the President’s lead counsel.”

Just before Stephanopoulos was filmed cutting off Sekulow’s answer, deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley directed the attorney that he would just take a “couple more” questions, signaling that the press conference was nearing its end.

Several of Trump’s Republican supporters also ripped Stephanopoulos for cutting off the remainder of the press conference, including Republican National Committee spokeswoman Elizabeth Harrington, who wrote, “Think he ever reacts that way when Schiff is speaking?”

Stephanopoulos, 58, was press secretary and senior adviser to Bill Clinton before he began his time on television news. He left the Clinton administration in his second term and was not part of the staff during Clinton’s impeachment.
