A Los Angeles man has been charged with threatening to kill Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., after leaving a menacing voicemail at the congresswoman’s Washington office, according to court documents.
“If you continue to make threats toward the president, you’re going to wind up dead, Maxine, ’cause we’ll kill you,” Anthony Scott Lloyd, 44, said in the voicemail left in October, per an arrest affidavit cited by the Los Angeles Times.
The affidavit details how Lloyd became enraged when he heard an Oct. 22 report on talk radio about Waters criticizing President Trump.
The California Democrat has been an outspoken critic of Trump and has repeatedly called for his impeachment.
In an interview with an FBI agent, Lloyd admitted to making the phone call but denied he had any intent to harm Waters.
Lloyd, who was arrested on Nov. 9, was freed on a $20,000 bond.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec 7. and, if convicted, faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
