Its obvious that many of the incoming class of freshman congressman have been eyeing the polls about what voters want them do once in DC.
Whether its for show or well meant the prospect of Congressman sleeping in their offices makes for quite a nice story. The Wall Street Journal has an extensive report on the 15% of Congressman who are looking to bunk up down the office.
“With voters again shunning Washington and fiscal excess, a number of incoming House members plan to demonstrate their scorn for both by camping out near their new desks”
One does have to wonder if this might spawn a whole new breed of boarding house in DC for the penny-pinching Congressmen. Those with big houses could rent out their rooms to Congressmen for a small fee and provide them with dinner after a long day at the office.
Could we also see a “club-system” like in the London with rooms attached to dining clubs for stays during the week. This would save the Congressman the expense of keeping digs in DC, while keeping them from smelling up their offices with overnight stays.
Its clear that it would be unhelpful to the task at hand if the new Congressmen are poorly rested before their wrestle with the nation’s problems.
