Bishop Michael Curry helped receive Bush’s casket at the National Cathedral in Washington by reciting prayers.
Curry is the 27th presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church. Bush was a lifelong Episcopalian, and the cathedral is the Episcopal Church’s most prominent place of worship in the U.S.
Prince Charles, Harry’s father, attended the funeral on Queen Elizabeth’s behalf. The heir to the throne, 70, also represented the queen at former President Ronald Reagan’s funeral in 2004.
Prince Charles last visited the U.S. in 2015. He and his wife, Camilla, spent much of their four-day trip in Washington.
Bush’s funeral service came after he lay in state at the U.S. Capitol on Monday through Wednesday. His remains will be returned to Texas after the ceremony in Washington.
