When it comes to Twitter tactics, Arianna Huffington much prefers Cory Booker over Harry Reid.
“With the use of social media, it’s something that some politicians are doing really well, and some of them are making fools of themselves, retweeting Lady Gaga, but that’s another story,” she said Monday, not mentioning Reid by name.
The Huffington Post founder spoke at Monday’s FedTalks 2010 conference in Washington about how technology could improve government. She gave high marks to Booker, telling an anecdote about how the Newark mayor tweeted back at a resident for alerting him to a malfunctioning traffic light.
“And Cory Booker retweeted, ‘I’m on it,’ ” she said, obviously impressed.
She also suggested a creative way to improve Sunday talk: putting bubbles above politicians heads that would include how much money they received from special interests or fact-checking their statements. (Think “Pop-Up Video.”)
“Wouldn’t that be fun?” she gushed. “You probably would get a lot fewer agreeing to participate in the shows,” she said.
Huffington was joined at the conference by other big-name speakers including Craigslist founder Craig Newmark and GQ’s Washington correspondent Ana Marie Cox.
