Salena Zito of the Washington Examiner blasted the media representation of Florida’s latest law, the Parental Rights in Education act.
Zito blasted the media for nicknaming the law “Don’t Say Gay,” calling the moniker “incredibly disingenuous.”
“It never once says ‘gay’ in the entire bill,” Zito said. “It’s about children that are at the ages of 8 and under, that they do not receive sexual orientation instructions at school.”
DISNEY WANTS FLORIDA’S ‘DON’T SAY GAY’ LAW REPEALED
Following the signing of the Parental Rights in Education law, Disney released a statement saying, “our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.”
President Joe Biden likewise promised to “continue to fight for dignity and opportunity for every student and family — in Florida and around the country.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis has been a fierce advocate for parental rights within Florida’s schools, signing a law last week to give parents the right to review curricula and signing the controversial parental rights bill on Monday.
“This is something that is incredibly popular with parents, no matter where they fall politically or if they’re politically agnostic,” Zito said. In an opinion editorial, she pointed out that a national poll found 51% of voters agree with the law.
